Starozavetna Knjiga o Jovu prema apokrifnom spisu Žitije i podvizi pravednog Jova

Abstract

The paper presents a detailed comparative analysis of the biblical Old Testament writing Book of Job and the apocryphal writing Hagiography and Deeds of Righteous Job. The main intention is to discover and establish differences and similarities, to determine inconsistencies compared to the canonical text, but also to determine embedded material (entire episodes) which are not characteristic for canonical texts. We shall show the differences between Job from the Book and Job from the apocryphal writing, as well as how the transformation of Jobab, the narrator, occurred, that is, how hagiography changed compared to the canon. The paper will also include an analytical approach to the figure of Satan/the devil, the image of women, friends/emperors as well as to the roles the aforementioned figures have in relation to the biblical text. The primary difference is absence of fear in Job/Jobab and this difference appears to be the most relevant since fear directly impacts the way we perceive the world, our behavior, tolerance, avoiding temptation as well as numerous other characteristics based on which Jobab is different from Job.
