Abstract: The subject of this paper is the syntactic analysis of the decomposed predicate in the journalistic writing style. The aim of the research is to analyze the prevalence of the most productive models of the decomposed predicate and the reasons for decomposing the predicate. The models and reasons for decomposition are derived from previous studies and confirmed with examples from the analyzed corpus. The corpus for this research consists of electronic editions from the archives of daily newspapers that mainly report on current political and economic topics: Politika, Novosti, and Danas from 2021 and 2022, as well as a weekly newspaper, Nedeljnik. The selection of this corpus is motivated by the fact that the content of the mentioned newspapers mostly consists of articles on political topics, where the highest frequency of use of the decomposed predicate is expected. The hypothesis about the frequency of the decomposed predicate in the journalistic writing style, which this paper will examine, is established based on previous results of functional-stylistic research, which show a pronounced tendency towards nominalization and, therefore, the frequency of examples of the decomposed predicate in this style.

Abstract: The aim of this paper is to explore the process of translating linguistic variations in Harper Lee’s novel To Kill a Mockingbird. By studying the Southern American dialect present in the novel, as well as the stylistic and expressive features of the characters’ speech, we analyzed the challenges the translator faced and described the various translation strategies employed. The analysis was based on a thorough examination of excerpts from the original version, focusing on important aspects of dialect use. By comparing these excerpts with their Serbian translations, we identified the translation strategies previously described. We concluded that the translator used a variety of strategies, such as cultural equivalence, paraphrasing, couplets, and others. The most frequently used strategies were cultural equivalence and phonetic adaptations. Cultural equivalence was necessary due to the many culturally specific elements in the novel, which required conveying meaning and context in a way that would be understandable to Serbian readers. The use of phonetic adaptations, which are also present in the original version, enabled the preservation of the authenticity of the characters’ speech.

Abstract: The paper analyzes sentence linearization in the corpus of the first volume of the Љетопис црковни (eng. Church Chronicle) from the second half of the 17th century. Sentence linearization is interpreted in light of the development of syntactic configurability and syntactic transitivity. The positioning of the subject, predicate, and object in the language of Andrija Zmajević is discussed. Two-part (SV, VO, ViO), three-part (SVO, SViO, VOiO), and four-part (SVOiO) sentence structures were isolated and analyzed. The results confirm the fact that syntactic configurability is a phase category. The SV model is distinguished by its frequency as the basic one in all sentence structures, while the almost equal frequency ratio of the VO/OV and ViO/iOV models reflects still immature processes in the field of sentence linearization, but also the development of transitivity.</summary>
