Abstract: School, as an educational institution, has been losing its monopoly in terms of achieving its educational mission, and especially in terms of the realization of the goals and tasks of physical and health education. The central place in the achievement of these tasks belongs to Physical education, but the results have not been satisfactory. School-age children are less and less physically active, which inevitably results in poor motor skills and a disturbed biological and psychological balance of the body. It cannot be expected that school would change this situation. As a response to the mentioned problem, using the method of theoretical analysis, this paper explores pedagogical values of open air schools. The classical pedagogy authors, from the XVII to the XIX century, such as J. A. Komenski, J. Lock, J.-J. Rousseau and J. H. Pestalozzi, wrote about the advantages of these schools, and due to the possibility of an integrative approach, they are current in today’s modern world. Although open air schools are organized once a year, their comprehensive educational approach compensates for certain weaknesses of traditional schools. These schools achieve their goals through physical activity; a teaching approach that combines theory and practical work; improvement of previously acquired knowledge and skills; integrative approach; development of independent learning skills; leisure activities. An open air school can reduce consequences of the lack of physical activity in children, their prolonged stay in polluted environments and improper nutrition. Positive influence of open air schools have long-term effects on children. The implementation of numerous activities in open air schools compensates for certain weaknesses in the realization of the educational role of the school in general, which is why it is often the target of criticism. Therefore, it is crucial to sistematically educate teachers for the implementation of the integrative approach in a different teaching environment.2023-01-01T00:00:00ZUSING VISUAL MATERIALS IN TEACHING YOUNG LEARNERS

Abstract: Visual materials play a significant role in teaching young learners, not only languages but other school subjects as well. The paper aims to provide the theoretical background on teaching English to young learners, with a focus on the classification and benefits of using visual aids in the classroom. The empirical research was designed to investigate the use of visual materials in teaching English to young learners and to register teachers’ and learners’ attitudes towards using such materials. The use of visual materials in the classroom was determined by a questionnaire for teachers of English. Learners’ attitudes towards using visual materials in the classroom were examined by an interview. According to the research results, the most used visual materials in the classrooms were pictures and flashcards while television, videos and computers as tools were rarely used. The paper contributes to improving practice in the area of teaching English to young learners by providing some ideas for teaching English with the help of visual materials.
Description: The paper is the result of research within the bilateral project “Crisis, challenges and modern education system”, carried out by the Faculty of Education in Jagodina, University of Kragujevac (Serbia) and the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Montenegro (Montenegro) (2021–2023).2023-01-01T00:00:00ZPolne razlike na matematičkim takmičenjima u Republici Srbiji

Abstract: Global research has indicated that there are differences in mathematics achievement among students relative to their gender. The differences have decreased in the last couple of decades, but they have not completely disappeared. Mathematics competitions play an important role in increasing students' motivation, interest, and self-confidence, as well as in identifying and supporting mathematically gifted students. For this reason, the question is whether and to what extent there are differences in achievement at mathematics competitions relative to gender. The aim of this paper is to analyse the continuity of interest and students' achievement, and to investigate the trends at regional mathematics competitions relative to gender in the 2014-2023 period. The research sample consists of 53490 primary school students, from fourth to eighth grade. Quantitative and qualitative methods were applied. The results indicate that there are differences in participation and achievement relative to students' gender. In the observed period, there was a trend of an increased male representation. A slight decrease in the representation of boys was identified during the transition from earlier grades to subject teaching, and this difference becomes greater in the eighth grade. When it comes to achievement, there is a statistically significant difference, usually to the benefit of the boys, in 60% of cases. There are more boys among the 5% of the students with the highest achievement. The findings indicate that more attention should be paid to this issue and that the cause of the gender differences regarding participation and achievement at competitions should be identified and ways should be found for overcoming it.2023-01-01T00:00:00Z
