Abstract: One of the requirements of a modern educational process that overcomes the weaknesses of the traditional way of teaching is integration of content. This approach, unlike traditional teaching which is aimed at acquiring facts, through separate subjects, enables students to acquire a more profound, long-term knowledge, which can “resist“ the process of forgetting. However, apart from educational effects, it also contributes to the motivation of students, contemporaneity and dynamics of the teaching process as a whole; there is no reason to burden pupils with similar contents within different subjects if the same effect can be achieved at a single class, with adequate organization of integrative teaching. Starting from the curricula from the first to the fourth grade of elementary school, the paper considers the possibilities of integrating contents of the World around us / Nature and Society and the Serbian language. The functional use of literary texts in lower grades of elementary school at Nature and society classes is analysed, and concrete solutions for integrating related contents were offered.
