Authors: Miladinović, Zoran
Issue Date: 2018
Abstract: Insurance prmium is the amount which the insurance contractor, that is the insured pays to the insurer for the risk he assumes by signing the insurance contract. It is the important element of an insurance contrct and, in essence, represents the price of risk, that is the cost of insurance. There is a close connection between risk and the amount of premium: this amount is determined according to the average risk intensity, and every change in risk factors, either those which increase or decrease the rsk intensity, by rule leads to the change in the premium amount. Yet, there are other elements that influence the amount of premium, such as: the amount to be ensured, the duration of insurance contract, the interest rate, general insurance costs, etc. As for the insurance contractor, that is the insured, the significant element is the gross amount of premium he needs to pay. Also, the crucial aspect is his obligation to pay premium since incurance business does not recognize free risk taking by the insurer. From the insurer’s point of view, the premium consists of several elements which have different purpose and are the subject of various legal arrangements. Thus, the insurer cannot use the means he has earned from premium as he wishes, but part of the gross premium needs to be used for establishing certain funds.
