STRATEGIJA OGRAĐIVANjA U AKADEMSKOM DISKURSU SRPSKIH AUTORA: KONTRASTIVNI PRISTUP

Abstract

The paper analyses markers of hedging in academic discourse of Serbian authors from both semantic and functional aspect. The qualitative-quantitative contrastive analysis was conducted using the corpus of research papers from two different groups of scientific disciplines written in Serbian and English language. The principal conclusion of the research is that Serbian authors on a general as well as on an intertype and interdisciplinary level use more units of hedging when writing in English. More specifically, when writing in Serbian, Serbian authors appear to be more direct in presenting scientific data, whereas when writing in English, they seem to be less categorical in formulating scientific results as well as more distanced from the reader.
