Назив: | Ceramics Matrix Composites: An Introduction |
Аутори: | Zivic, Fatima |
Датум издавања: | 2021 |
Сажетак: | This volume presents the latest developments in Ceramics matrix composites (CMCs). The most important ceramic matrices, their properties and applications are described, including alumina (Al2O3), zirconia (ZrO2), and silicon carbide (SiC). Also different reinforcements are presented, including novel nanophases like carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and graphene. Different processing routes are shown: traditional processes (sintering, sol-gel, Reactive Melt Infiltration, RMI, Chemical Vapor Infiltration, CVI), and advanced new methods like Additive manufacturing (AM) and Friction Stir Processing (FSP). Characterization techniques for composites, including material modeling approaches are presented. Different application areas and case studies are reviewed, by showing specific properties of CMCs in related components. Nuclear grade SiC composites and radiation effects, radiation damage and property changes of these composites in nuclear energy systems are reviewed. Laser beam interactions with composites are summarized. In automotive industries, advantages of CMCs are shown related to elements of the brake system, engine components, valves, turbine parts, and turbocharged engines. Application examples of ion conducting materials are described, such as sensors, lithium ion batteries, NaS battery, solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC), electrolysis of gaseous molecules, gas separation and atomic switch or nano-ionics circuits. Water and wastewater treatment is another important sector that has been considered. Bioceramics are presented from several aspects of tissue engineering. In ophthalmology, bioceramics, bioactive glasses, orbital floor repair, orbital implants, keratoprosthesis are reviewed. For bone tissue engineering, clinically used ceramic composites are reviewed, as well as the latest research trends, including solutions for hip arthroplasty. Bioactive ceramics, bioactive cements, bioactive glasses, and calcium phosphates, have been analysed related to drug delivery systems. Advanced dental ceramics are presented, including All-ceramic systems, glass ceramic, lithium disilicate, leucite, veneering ceramic and zirconium, especially important in esthetic dentistry. |
