Solution of Contact Problems Using the Finite Element Method

Abstract

The contact between two deformable bodies in general case is presented in this paper. Even when the bodies are elastic the contact represents a non-linear problem as the configuration of two bodies coming into the contact is not known beforehand. An analogy between friction and classical elasto-plasticity was used in the numerical implementation of the contact and it is presented in this paper. Developed numerical model is implemented in the inhouse software package PAK.
