Title: | Sociolingvistička analiza tekstova hip hop pesama sa teritorije bivše Jugoslavije |
Authors: | Jerotijevic Tisma, Danica |
Issue Date: | 2016 |
Abstract: | The paper focuses on the sociolinguistic analysis of hip hop lyrics on the territory of former Yugoslavia, including performers from Serbia, Croatia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina and a few examples from Slovenia. Following the suggested theoretical frame, successfully applied in previous studies (Androutsopoulos, Scholz 2003), we attempted at classifying and explaining the socio-cultural context, most frequent topics and linguistic structures, especially emphasizing the use of English, i.e. the instances of language crossing (Rampton 1995). After analyzing the most representative examples, we confirmed the suggestions provided in the previous studies, and recognized considerable differences present in our corpus topic and language-wise. Furthermore, we pointed to the phenomenon of recontextualization, i.e. the fact that the researched performers adapt the original features of hip hop to the local socio-cultural context they live and write in. The paper likewise drew attention to the numerous possibilities for further research provided by the investigated music genre, not only for sociolinguistics, but for contact linguistics and discourse analysis, as well. |
