Abstract

Initially, the paper analyzes the relationship of two discourses: Luther’s theo-ontological and the Enlightenment discourse, thus attempting to examine to which extent and in which manner their interaction influenced the constitution of contemporary American hyper-individualized cultural space. Consequently, the paper explores the crucial influence of consumerism on destabilizing the binary opposition spiritual-material.
