Abstract: | Relying on deconstructive interpretation of linguistic characteristics of Pekiæ’s literary style, the paper primarily focuses on analyzing the interdependence between formal and thematic dimensions of the novel Rabies. The basic hypothesis we intended to prove is the following: when writing the mentioned novel, Pekiæ was, among other things, preoccupied by the influence that language, as a system of symbols, had on both the identity of literary text and that of human subject. Hence, particular attention has been paid to the analysis of Pekiæ’s language expression which is heavily reliant on less than subtle intrusion of English language structures into Serbian linguistic system. Such interference has been examined on orthographic, lexical, syntactic, and idiomatic strata of the text. Consequently, one of the conclusions put forth is that, by insisting on artificiality and sterility of symbolic communication characteristic of contemporary society, Pekiæ is forcing his readers to permanently question not only the meaning of the text but also the coherence of their own identity structure |
