Lekseme jezik, r(ij)eč i knjiga iz perspektive Vukovog Rječnika i današnjeg srpskog jezika

Abstract

The paper compares the meanings and usages (previously expanded by means of a collocational method) of the lexemes jezik, r(ij)eč, and knjiga from Vuk’s Srpski rječnik (SR 1818, 1852) to their meanings and usages in the Rečnik Matice srpske (RMS 1967–1976) and the Rečnik srpskoga jezika (RSJ 2007). The results of the analysis of the three lexemes could be summarized as follows: a) the number of their meanings in contemporary Serbian is expectedly much larger; b) the meanings are also more elaborate; c) there are certain changes, socially and culturally induced, in the order of their meanings when compared to the order provided in Vuk’s rječnik; d) some meanings and usages are labelled as archaic or vernacular from the perspective of contemporary Serbian. However, the results also indicate that some collocates of the lexemes in question as found in Vuk’s Rječnik are identical with those of present-day Serbian.
