Title: Morfološka i semantička analiza glagolskih anglicizama na -ovati u srpskom jeziku
Authors: Tomić, Gorica
Issue Date: 2018
Abstract: The paper analyzes thirty-six verbal anglicisms ending in -ovati such as brejkovati, rejvovati, skremblovati in terms of their morpho-semantic adaptation in the Serbian lexicon. The anglicisms, together with their meanings, are excerpted from the Rečnik novijih anglicizama. For those anglicisms which are not provided with a meaning within the Rečnik novijih anglicizama, the Veliki rečnik stranih reči i izraza has been consulted. The paper also aims at determining the areas within which these anglicisms most frequently arise. The morphological analysis shows that the anglicisms in question are mainly (thirty-one) formed by adding the suffix to the phonemically adapted English verb, in its full or slightly altered form (through ellipsis and/or clipping). The remaining five examples are formed by adding the suffix to the full or phonemically adapted English noun ending in -ing. When contrasted with their English bases as glossed in the online edition of the Oxford Dictionary of English, twenty-nine anglicisms show semantic narrowing, both in number and field, whereas the remaining seven examples show zero semantic extension. Two anglicisms (apdejtovati and startovati), after being fully integrated into the Serbian language, have undergone semantic extension. The analyzed examples have mostly been borrowed within the areas of computing and entertainment.
