Title: | Slika žene u srpskom društvu spektakla |
Authors: | Manojlović, Nina |
Issue Date: | 2014 |
Abstract: | In this paper we shall try and present an image of the contemporary (maybe even (post)modern?) woman that can be seen and heard in Serbian media. The goal of this paper is to examine the connection between this image of the contemporary woman and ideology, as well as the effect it has on the society that creates it and/or is created by it. For the analysis of the contemporary woman, as well as the ideological background and consequences of her relationship towards the opposite sex, her physical appearance and alchocol, the examles are excerpted from the lyrics on Svetlana Ražnjatović’s most recent album. Visual and performing assets exhibited on and off stage are not the subject of this paper. The language of these lyrics, or, more loosely, entertainment industry discourse, is of interest to us because of its array of effects on society – it is an instrument of power, manipulation, and control. More precisely, we are interested in the image that is created by such discourse, since those producing it are in a position of power and, hence, have great impact on the society. This papper shows that this spectacular woman is naked, crazy, and out of control, but always modern, wearing makeup, and seemingly strong and independent. |
