Metaforičko mapiranje lekseme future u engleskom i lekseme budućnost u srpskom jeziku

Abstract

Couched within the framework of cognitive linguistics, this paper aims at contributing to the study of polysemy and meaning-chaining. More broadly, it is part of the research that examines the concept of TIME as a target domain. The subject of my paper relates to conceptual metaphors which contain the English lexeme future and the Serbian lexeme budućnost, both of which are metonymically related to the English and Serbian lexemes time and vreme, respectively. The immediate aim of my paper is to examine the mapping of the source domains involved in the metaphoric concretization of the lexemes future and budućnost. However, my broader objectives include a comparison of the source domains attested in the data with the source domains, which, more often than not, participate in the mapping of the target domain TIME (’VREME’). To this purpose, I examine the interference between the source domains, which certain metaphoric expressions induce, and compare the results obtained from the comparison of the two languages.
