O SMS-u kao žanru razgovornog stila

Abstract

Text messages are relatively new, quick, and concise means of communication with specific language employment. This paper provides arguments for stylistic distinctness of text messages on several levels of analysis: phonostylistic, morphostylistic, lexicostylistic and syntaxostylistic. Being a mixture of standard and non-standard language features, text messages in Serbian certainly belong to the colloquial functional style. The paper goes further to conclude that text messages also represent a new genre due to the use of English words, abbreviations, emoticons, highly specific tense use and discourse dynamic itself.
