Abstract

Attitude of the community towards the deceased is also visible in the look of graveyards in a country. Their regular maintenance is of special importance because it reflects piety for the deceased, provides dignity in the location of their resting and ensures respect of the emotions of people who were close to the deceased. The look of graveyards depends on one of the key factors and that is the way how is their maintenance regulated. The author, therefore, in her paper makes an analysis of regulations around the most important matters in relation to the maintenance of graveyards in Serbia, with the aim to identify their good and bad sides and to formulate proposals on how to remove identified shortcomings. To this end, the paper deals with: - delineation of management, use and maintenance of graveyards; - identification of actions which need to be part of graveyards maintenance; - identification of the object, legal nature and subjects of maintenance of a graveyard, graves and gravestones.
