Abstract

In this paper, the author draws attention to the problem of financial stability, which is becoming the focus of central banks because they were blamed for instability during the last global financial crisis. The question of whether central banks can be solely responsible for financial instability is also open. In order to prevent future crises and due to the need for better and more effective supervision over financial institutions, the EU reacted by adopting regulations establishing a different system of supervision and providing for unique rules and procedures for the resolution of banks. That's why the paper presents the so-called the Single Supervisory Mechanism and the Single Resolution Mechanism.
