Abstract

This paper discusses the problem of the position of theological higher education institutions in the context of current positive legal regulations in the field of higher education in the Republic of Serbia. The current situation in our higher education, as well as the public debate that preceded the adoption of the currently valid regulations in this area, clearly indicate the undoubted need to approach the analysis of precisely those norms that regulate the work of higher education institutions that implement academic study programs in the field of theology of one of the traditional churches and religious communities. In addition, the need for such critical consideration, in itself, originates from the undoubted and immeasurable general social importance that activity in higher education, by the nature of things, quite objectively possesses. Precisely for the stated reasons, this work is dedicated to both a critical analysis of the indicated regulations, and to pointing out possible directions for overcoming potential problems in the future, in order to enable smoot development and progress for the activities in the field of higher education in Serbia.
