Abstract: Brakes are the most important pieces of safety equipment on vehicles today. Braking is an exciting area for development within the automotive industry with a number of technologies competing to improve safety and overall efficiency. The braking system should provide a high degree of reliability and durability under the normal exploitation conditions, as well as in extreme conditions. The process of stopping a vehicle or reducing its speed is based on the kinetic energy reduction process, followed by heating of the brake disc and brake pads. The thermal state determined using the Ansys software package, which depends on the heat flux of the brake disc and brake pads calculated using Matlab, is presented in the paper. The obtained results indicate the different temperatures occurring in the friction pair, and which zones are more exposed to high temperatures.
