ODNOS RUSIJE PREMA PITANjU PRAVNOG STATUSA SRBIJE U PROCESU ZAKLjUČENjA BUKUREŠKOG MIROVNOG UGOVORA

Abstract

In Serbian historical and legal historical science, there is a nearly unanimous belief that during the peace negotiations with Turkey in 1811/12, which resulted in the signing of the Bucharest Treaty, Russia was inconsistent regarding the future status of Serbia and that it ruthlessly sacrificed Serbian interests for its own whenever necessary. The notification of Serbian uprising leaders about the content of the Bucharest Treaty a month and a half after its signing is also predominantly interpreted in Serbian historiography as a sign of the unscrupulousness of Russian diplomacy. This paper reexamines such dominant views, primarily through the lens of Russian archival materials that have been little or not at all used in Serbian works on the Bucharest Treaty and the First Serbian Uprising.
