Сажетак: The new directive of the European Union on environmental crime, adopted to improve the protection of the environment through criminal law, marks a significant shift in the regulation of issues of environmental protection and preservation. This paper explores the implications of the directive on Serbian criminal legislation, focusing on the harmonization of the Serbian legal system with EU environmental standards. As a candidate country for EU membership, Serbia faces the challenge of harmonizing its national laws with EU regulations, especially in the area of environmental crime. Accordingly, in the paper, we will first look at the key provisions of the new directive on environmental crime, namely those that specify the criminal acts that state members should incorporate into their legal provisions of the law on national legislation, and the guilt for the protection of rights by national legislation acts, criminal sanctions for natural and legal persons, etc. The paper ends with consideration of potential changes needed in Serbian criminal legislation in order to bring it into line with EU norms.
