Issue Date: 2026
Abstract: This paper examines Danilo Kiš’s literary depiction of totalitarianism, emphasizing his use of language, metaphor, and critique to challenge oppressive regimes. Through detailed analysis of his novel “A Tomb for Boris Davidovich”, the paper reveals how Kiš disassembles ideological constructs, highlights the writers’ responsibilities in resisting authoritarian control, and advocates truthful storytelling as a form of ideological resistance. The analysis underscores Kiš’s role in using literature as a tool to confront historical forgetting, ideological manipulation, and the destructive power of totalitarian systems.
