The aim of the study was to unify all previously published case reports and determine the nature of the relationship between the use of amoxicillin and the development of aseptic meningitis. The study was designed in the form of a systematic review article. Literature search was conducted through PUBMED and GOOGLE internet databases, by using the academic internet network of the Faculty of Medical Sciences in Kragujevac. The study included 12 case reports which are presented and evaluated in the results. Taking into account all cases, the mean total score for quality (comprehensiveness of documentation, the reliability and the number of reported cases) was 5.83 ± 0.72, between 5 and 7. The mean value of the Naranjo score was 7.83 ± 1.85 in the range of 5 to 10. The most common signs and symptoms were: fever (91.66%), headache (75%) and stiff neck (33.33%). The average time needed to recover from the adverse effects accounted for 5.71 ± 4.42 days, in the range from 1 to 14 days. Based on data from several published cases, it can be concluded that aseptic meningitis after treatment with amoxicillin is a benign and reversible syndrome, which will withdraw after the exclusion of drug from therapy, after several days of hospitalization.
