The subject of this paper is the perception of the cult of the tree in folk beliefs and folk traditions of the Serbs, considering the folkloristic and anthropological studies and with the emphasis on the elements preserved from the Slavic mythology and tradition. We will attempt to direct the research towards specific examples from folk poetry, folk tales and medieval translational literature, as we observe the “tree” as a cult, symbol and label within part of the structure of Serbian literature. The aim of this paper is to present the sublimated phenomena of tradition, religion and literature materialized in the form of the tree as a culturological notion.en_US
