Elaboracija izvornog domena „resurs“ – konceptualizacija vremena kao biljke u srpskom i engleskom jeziku

Abstract

The most productive elaborations of the metaphor time is a resource are time is a valuable commodity and time is money. However, this paper aims to examine another branch of elaboration – time is a natural phenomenon, and the productivity of mapping of the source domain plant to the target domain time in Serbian and English language. The analysis also takes into account the conceptualizations of time as fruit and food, because we believe that they represent concretizations, that is further chaining of the meaning of the examined sourcedomain. As we consider that the said conceptualization indeed is elaboration of the higher order conceptual metaphor – time is a resource, one section of the paper will be dedicated to the analysis of the basis for the creation of the metaphor time is a plant. The theoretical framework is cognitive-linguistic, and the methodological framework of the research is corpus analysis and contrastive analysis. The results indicate that there is a high degree of similarity between Serbian and English language when it comes to the mappings between the examined domains.
