Anthologies of oral literature by Vojislav M. Jovanović Marambo, Ser- bian folk poems and Serbian folk tales, represent a significant part of his study of oral literature. Apart from being in accordance with general features of anthologies ‒ reflecting aesthetic criteria of the compiler and the epoch in which they were published, as well as the educational goals ‒ these anthologies largely synthesize Jovanović’s study of oral literature. This paper presents the reception of the anthologies by both scientific circles and the public in the period between the two world wars. Jovanović’s contribution to the folk- loristics is, among other things, reflected in the fact that his anthologies represent one of the first successful attempts, after Vuk, to collect the works of folk literature.en_US
