Abstract

The social value of sport is expressed through the various roles that sport has, or should be, in the life of a particular individual or community. Accordingly, the social functions of sport should be subordinated to noble goals in order to achieve individual as well as collective benefits. Nevertheless, the history of social relations has shown that almost everything that a man has created for his own well-being can be the object of his abuse. In this sense, sport is no exception. Therefore, the consideration of the social value of sports implies an attempt to see the relationship between the positive and negative sides of this exceptional social phenomenon.
