dc.description.abstractThe aim of the paper is to show communicative function of phraseology used in newspaper news and press reports. The analysis of texts of newspaper news and press reports printed in Serbian newspapers showed common choices of phraseology as expressive linguistic means, used to attract and sustain attention. Phraseological units are identified and categorized by the criteria of their structure and origin. By the use of phraseology a journalist makes newspaper text factually more persuasive, picturesque and expressible and also provides additional information to the basic facts. Differential characteristics of newspaper news and press reports involve use of proverbs, accumulation and innovation of phraseology, which are identified in press reports only.en_US
