Syntactic tests to determine the differences between the types of situations provide the necessary but insufficient criteria for defining situational aspect. The computation of the aspect information is not complete until all the aspectual instructions contained in the entire statement are taken into account, i.e. the instructions contained in the verb, and also those which come from the syntactic interactions of the verb with its arguments, including the subject, the object and various complements. A shift from one type of situation to another may be considered as the result of the resolution of the conflict between lexicalized aspectual information and that conveyed by the context.en_US
