The purpose of the paper is to present all characters (except Eduard Sam, mother and sis- ter) from Danilo Kis’ Rani jadi, the first novel in his family trilogy/circus. In the novel the primary focus is on Andreas Sam and his memories which tell us more about his childhood, the war period and his father. Along with the character of Andreas Sam, the main aspect of our analysis is his best friend, Dingo the dog. Since most of the studied characters are of Jewish origin, we sought to point out the social and private spheres of each character’s life individ- ually, as well as include information on the presence of anti-Semitism in cases where it was stated or hinted at.en_US
