Abstract

Funeral of the deceased is one of the most important services of public interest provided by competent public companies. Our legal system foresees two ways in which funerals can be done: as a burial and as a cremation. Since burial is a traditional funeral method legal aspect of which has already been elaborated, the author in this paper analyses cremation as a funeral method which over the past ten years is more often in practice in our country. The first section of the paper deals with regulations and notion of the cremation. In the following three sections, the author elaborates ways in which the law regulates conditions, cremation procedures and methods of keeping cremated remains of the deceased. Based on the analysis, in the conclusion, the author valuates regulations stipulating cremation, specifically identifying those which need to be corrected for the future.
