Title: O grafiji i pravopisu u pismima Ahmet-paše Hercegovića
Authors: Polomac, Vladimir
Issue Date: 2019
Abstract: The paper investigates the most important graphic and orthographic traits of the six original letters Ahmet-Pasha Herzegovich wrote and sent to Dubrovnik at the end of 15th and in the early 16th centuries. The research is primarily aimed at determining the extent of the presence of the most important graphic and orthographic features of the Western (Bosnia-Hum) and the Eastern (Ras and Resava) provenance, as well as the Latin and Ottoman influences in the given aspect of those letters. The research carried out points to a considerable degree of variation both in individual letters and in specific graphic and orthographic features. The comparison of the graphics and the orthography of the examined letters with the Sultan’s acts of the Serbian Office of the Ottoman Porte (especially with the letters of the Sultan Bayezid II ) indicate a general match in the most important features but also point to a few differences: the separation of consonant clusters with a special character within or at the end of the word, the doubling of graphemes for the /o/ vowel and marking the vowel-like /r/ with a symbol indicating a semi-vowel nature of the given grapheme or by using the grapheme <a> in front of <r>.
