dc.description.abstract | Conceptual metaphor TIME IS A PRODUCT falls within the scope of the source domain COMMODITY, which represents a productive domain in both observed languages. The paper explores syntactic means that are employed in constructing said conceptual metaphor and its linguistic realizations and weather the structure imposes any restraints on the cognitive effect contributing to their conceptualization. The primary goal is to analyze the chaining of meanings of the conceptual metaphor TIME IS A PRODUCT, and the individual linguistic realizations in terms of linguistic expressions that are then grouped within lower-order source domains (BUILDING, PIECE OF CLOTHING, etc.). Secondary goal is to explore the relationship between syntactic means that contribute to the chaining of metaphoric expressions and the way the lower-order metaphors are structured in the two unrelated languages. Corpuses of English and Serbian language used for this paper are similar in terms of volume and diversity of texts and provide basis for adequate analysis. The analysis has shown high degree of similarity between the two observed languages when it comes to source domain COMMODITY and target domain TIME and can be a contribution to research being conducted in the field of cognitive semantics and Conceptual metaphor theory in the light of contrastive analysis in different languages. | en_US |
