With layered conception and structure, the novel A Shoe at the End of the World by Dejan Aleksić takes some grounding elements of the folktale and turns them into a symbolic game of known and unknown. The battle between these motifs that make the original bridge between tradition („travelling motifs“ of a folktale, initial function, „the angelic pair“), and innovation (the figure of storyteller, a game with modern poetics and children’s literature) finishes in a artistic core of a modern fairytale about crucial questions about existence, space and time, destiny and (un)written. With a strong roots in the atmosphere of Serbian literature and Beckett’s heritage of 1950’s, Dejan Aleksić places a symbol of a story in the center of the story about that symbol that is never written within the limits of text.en_US
