SPACIJALIZACIJA TEMPORALNOSTI U ROMANU FAMA O BICIKLISTIMA SVETISLAVA BASARE

Abstract

The paper examines the mappings of spatial domains onto the target domain time in the novel The Cyclist Conspiracy by Svetislav Basara. The analysis begins by examining the orientational metaphors, more precisely metaphors that reflect vertical orientation. Next, we examine the horizontal orientation, the elaboration of which enables conceptualization of time as landscape. Closely related to these domains is the domain of containment. In the end we analyze the examples where time is conceptualized by means of the moving source domain, both within the Time-moving and Ego-moving schema. The analysis shows that in the said novel all of the enumerated spatial source domains map onto the target domain of time, and that such cross-domain mappings are very productive. The creative and innovative expressions within the conceptualizations time is a place/landscape especially stand out.
