Poetic interpretations of the relationship between angel and evil in Serbian literature point to the emptying of the values established by tradition that the angel carries with him, and so the given heavenly being becomes a multiple literary place through which ponerological experiences are examined. The angelological figure becomes ambivalent, because angelological activities equally include those that can be determined as positive (feeding in the desert, announcing the good news of the conception and birth of the desired child, release from prisons, etc.) or as negative (punishment, killing, torture, infliction of pain and suffering, etc.). Although it can be assumed that, through the activity of an angelic being, the dialectic of the relationship between good and evil is revealed, literary angelology nevertheless represents a certain overcoming of it, whereby the angel is revealed as a sign that gains its value in relation to the assigned content. Angelological figurations of evil, on the one hand, open up to Ridiger Zafranski’s (2005: 11) statement about evil as a name for “that which threatens man’s free consciousness and what it can commit”, and angelological action is revealed as evil precisely in thwarting man’s free will and consciousness, while, on the other hand, they approach Jean Baudrillard, where angels become an absolute simulation of God’s presence, existence and goodness, that is, empty signs in which evil is written as such.en_US
