Abstract: In the history of literature, poetic self-expressions that go beyond even the ekphrastic component of poetry are especially intriguing, considering that the reader almost never gets a self-portrait in its synthesis. Poetry, especially in the fifties, and then in the seventies, as well as the most recent poetic forged fades, begin to play with a fresh creation of the world - in the combination of being, objectivity, cosmology, myth - with a strong philosophical influence. In the core of that Heideggerian "age of the image of the world" hides the creative dictate of iron, neglected in contemporary Serbian poetry. Crossing the path from the material, alchemical, folklore, iron and all its derivatives in the poetic programs we have selected (Vasko Popa, Borislav, Radović and Vojislav Karanović) draw a new route of a scattered lyrical self-portrait gathered in the common position of a being whose name is iron.
