Abstract: | The representativeness of trade unions is of great importance in representing workers' interests and ensuring effective collective bargaining. It implies that trade union has the legitimacy and support of a sufficient number of workers, enabling it to negotiate on their behalf with employers and government institutions. In many legal systems, only representative unions have the right to participate in certain types of collective bargaining or be involved in decision-making processes affecting workers. Representativeness also allows unions to effectively protect workers' rights from abuses such as unlawful dismissals, discrimination, and violations of labor laws. Additionally, they have a solid influence on shaping public policies related to labor, social protection, and other issues of importance to workers. Thus, the representativeness of trade unions plays a crucial role in ensuring better working conditions and protecting workers' rights through collective bargaining and other forms of trade union activities. In the paper, the author provides a summarized overview of the conditions of four systems for acquiring the status of trade union representativeness present in European countries, highlighting their advantages and disadvantages regarding the establishment and functioning of trade unions, as well as the consequences of such conditions for achieving role of trade unions in protecting workers. |
