In modern sports, where the active participation of coaches is one of the indispensable factors on the way to achieving significant sports results, contracts of professional engagement appear more often as a legal instrument through which athletes hire a coaches who is performing professional work in sports independently. A legally concluded contract of professional engagement creates obligations for both contracting parties. The basic duties that the coach undertakes consist in performing professional-pedagogical work, but also in undertaking a significant number of other actions aimed at protecting the athlete from all foreseeable risks inherent in a certain sports activity. In addition, depending on the will of the contracting parties and the circumstances of the specific case, the legal position of the coach may be characterized by other obligations. On the other hand, the most significant obligation arising from the conclusion of this contract for the athlete is reflected in the payment of the agreed compensation. An exception occurs when the contract of professional engagement is concluded as a contract without consideration, in which case the athlete does not owe compensation for the professional services provided by the coach. However, even in such circumstances - when an athlete obtains the professional services of a coach without any compensation - the conclusion of a contract creates a range of obligations for him, the execution of which should enable the achievement of the goals for which the contract was concluded. After the introductory presentations dedicated to the role of the coach in the modern system of sports, as well as the basic features and characteristics of the contracts of professional engagement concluded between coaches and athletes, the author analyzes in the paper all the aforementioned obligations, the execution of which the coach and the athlete take upon themselves by concluding this contract.en_US
