Directive 2024/825/EU aims to achieve a higher level of consumer protection in the environmental protection sector. The goals are to enable consumers to be adequately informed in order to make more informed business decisions aiming to promote sustainable consumption, to eliminate practices that harm the sustainable economy and prevent consumers from choosing sustainable consumption, as well as to ensure a better and more consistent application of the Union's legal framework on consumers. Directive 2024/825/EU amends Directive 2005/29/EC on unfair business practices with regard to business practices that are considered to be deceptive, and therefore prohibited, on a case-by-case basis, by adding certain deceptive practices that are considered to be unfair in all circumstances and therefore forbidden. Otherwise, it is possible to consider that a business practice is unfair despite the fact that it is not specifically listed as an unfair business practice in Annex I of Directive 2005/29/EC. Directive 2024/825/EU also amends Directive 2011/83/EU on consumer rights. All these changes boil down to the following: in order for consumers to make more informed decisions ("better informed decisions") and in order to stimulate the demand and supply of more durable goods, before concluding the contract, consumers should be provided with specific information about the durability and the possibility of repairing the product, for all types goods. Directive 2011/83/EU is amended to provide consumers with pre-contractual information on durability, repairability and availability of updates, in a clear and comprehensible manner.en_US
