Serbia is one of the few countries that can boast of a long tradition when it comes to administrative justice. The early realization of the need for such a way of controlling the administration did not result in the rapid introduction of administrative courts, but in the given historical circumstances it paved the way to the establishment of the administrative judiciary as we know it today, exemplified in the institution of the unified administrative court of the Republic of Serbia. The importance of such control is supported by the struggle that took place in the European countries of the 19th century, for the establishment of a rule of law, which is based on the principle of legality, and which includes the control of acts of public authority and greater protection of the rights of individuals based on legal standards. The idea and meaning of judicial control of administration in all countries remained the same, but the way in which judicial control is institutionally shaped and organized is different. Following the French example, Serbia founded the State Council and accepted the French model of the administrative judiciary. However, the development path of the administrative judiciary will not constantly follow an upward path, but will be conditioned to a significant extent by the external and internal struggle for independence, supremacy, and later by world wars and a new socio-political ideology. The aim of the work is to present and review the development of the administrative judiciary in Serbia in a systematic manner in order to determine the main characteristics of the domestic administrative judiciary and to see the directions of future development.en_US
