The topic of the paper is the study of conditional sentences introduced by the conjunction где/гди in the admi- nistrative-legal style of the Serbian language in the 19th century. Texts of constitutions adopted during the 19th century (1835, 1838, 1869, 1888, 1901) were used as a corpus, along with laws from the Collections of Laws, regulations, and regulatory decrees, as well as stenographic notes from the sessions of the National Assembly of the Kingdom of Serbia for the year 1898. In the analysis, we utilize syntactic-sematic, historical-linguistic, method from functional stylistic and legal theory methods. The hypothesis argues that in the 19th century, contextually conditioned semantically unspecified monolexemic connectors and incorporated linguistic categories dominated. Over the century, through the principle of growth, in line with the intellectualization and europeanization of the Serbian language in the 19th century, and with functional differentiation, contextually unconditioned semantically specified connectors and complex semantic categories gradually developed. The use of the connector где in conditional meaning, where it demonstrates a strong spatial-conditional interference, supports this hypothesis. The identical temporal-aspectual paradigm, as seen in dependent clauses introduced by the subordinator ако, indicates conditional meaning. The use of dependent clauses within the syntactic construction of a period and the use of correlatives serve to express deep if-then hypotheses. The existence of a complex connector in the case of где, which is not preserved in contemporary language, also indicates that these sentences had the status of conditional sentences in the 19th century. Towards the end of the century, there is a gradual withdrawal of this connector in conditional meaning, due to the need for more precise expression, resulting in the formation of a greater number of complex connectors.en_US
