Appellative forms in the Akathist to our Most Holy Lady Mother of God represent metaphorical (rarely metonymic) expressions of the form A is B in an obviously explicit way. The aim of the research in this paper is to examine the interpretive mechanisms used in the processing of poetic metaphors which represent an extremely creative use of language. The focus of the paper is on the emergent properties and weak propositional effects. The analysis shows that the emergent properties common to several semantic domains attested in the corpus can be grouped into two main branches - providing help and protection and (announcing) the unknowable. Due to the nature of the text and the expressions thereof, which represent distinctly poetic metaphors, the emergent properties (contextual implications) are of a very general type, one can single out the "superior" property possessing (immeasurable) goodness/virtue. Similarly to the emergent properties, the weak propositional effects are in accordance with the discursive features of the text and form a rich image scheme. Also, the different propositions generated during the process of interpretation depend heavily on general knowledge and communal common ground, which is the reason for conduction the analysis within a presuposed religious context of reception.en_US
