The subject of this paper is the verb manage and its complements as well as the equivalent constructions in the Serbian language. The examples have been drawn from a parallel English-Serbian corpus within the contemporary Serbian language corpus (SrpKor). Out of 199 examples with the verb manage, 68 were analyzed. Instances of this verb meaning ‘to control or organize someone or something’ were excluded from the analysis. The main task in this paper is to determine the semantics of the main verb, as well as the Aktionsart of the verbs in the complement position. The analysis has revealed that the semantics of the main verb in both languages may depend on the Aktionsart of the complement. Namely, the verb manage and its translation equivalents may display features of a terminative verb. In addition, because of its implicative nature, the verb manage (and its translation equivalents) will have a telic complement. Finally, the analysis has shown that the verb manage is commonly translated into Serbian as uspeti and poći za rukom, but some times the verb remains untranslated. This poses an additional task referring to the analysis of the pragmatic aspects of these predicates. Depending on the translation, certain contextual implications may not be conveyed effectively.en_US
