DODELJIVANJE SLOBODE OD STRANE DRŽAVE BEZ UPOTREBE MANUMISIJE

Abstract

Even though the Principate could be treated as a period of maturation of the Roman state, it is also the time when the first signs of serious changes in society and economy have arisen. Huge increase of number of the manumissio has been an indicator that slavery system is slowly sinking into the crisis, so the state starts to intervene in the liberation of slaves. In this work we will discuss cases of slave liberation, conducted by the state, and against the will of masters, that occurred as a reward to the slaves who helped in discovering the perpetrators of serious crimes or were motivated by religious and humanitarian reasons.
