Abstract: In Ancient Rome, people were either free or slaves. Depending on the economic system, the claims of conquest, and political circumstances, the status of slaves has been different throughout Roman history. After the Punic Wars, their position got worse, which caused rebellions and created uncertainty among the ruling classes. Reflection of those circumstances could be found in the new philosophical understandings, legislative changes and changed religious doctrines regarding the position of slaves. Among those ideal of faithful slave stands out as an example of perfection to which, according to philosophers, legislators and Christian doctrine, all of the slaves should strive.
