According to many researchers in the field of physical education, handball has a rich history. Handball appeared in Europe simultaneously in several countries, primarily in Denmark, Germany, Norway, and Sweden. The path to today’s indoor handball led through Czech handball (česká házená) and outdoor handball. The goal of this paper was to research, analyze, and present the most successful periods of handball, both at the Teacher Training School and the town of Svetozarevo, as well as exceptional individuals who brought glory to the town. In addition to the historical method, the method of theoretical analysis was applied in the paper as well. The basic research technique for collecting data was content analysis. The research sample included former players, coaches, male students, and female students of the Teacher Training School in Jagodina – Svetozarevo. The obtained findings indicate that Jagodina – Svetozarevo has a long tradition of playing handball. It began with Chech handball on May 17, 1931. It continued with outdoor handball in 1948, but after the school year 1951/1952, outdoor handball gave way to indoor handball. Thousands of players from the Teacher Training School and other schools brought glory to Jagodina – Svetozarevo and were praised in Serbia, Yugoslavia, and all of Europe. Handball has always been the number one sport in the town on the banks of the Belica River.en_US
