The implementation of virtual and augmented reality (VR/AR) technologies in the educational process is one of the current research topics in the field of education. Although the results of the previous research studies on this topic show numerous positive effects of new technologies on the educational process, their implementation is still progressing slowly. The authors note that one of the leading problems regarding the implementation of new technologies in teaching are the teachers’ attitudes towards these technologies and their (in)competence to use them in educational purposes. For this reason, this paper presents research conducted on a sample of 104 primary school teachers from the Republic of Serbia. The primary goal of the research was to investigate teachers’ perceptions of using virtual and augmented reality technologies in visual art education. The results show that a large percentage of teachers are familiar with VR and AR technologies, while only a small number use them frequently for both personal and educational purposes. Additionally, the majority of teachers recognize the potential and positive effects of using VR and AR technologies in visual art education, such as improving the quality of the educational process, fostering creativity development and increasing student motivation. According to these results, it is necessary to consider the possibilities of organizing training for teachers to expand their knowledge, provide support and encourage the implementation of virtual and augmented reality technologies in the educational process.en_US
