NIČEOVO ESTETIČKO TUMAČENJE KATARZE U „ROĐENJU TRAGEDIJE“

Abstract

The paper discusses Nietzsche’s interpretation of catharsis in The Birth of Tragedy. It is defined as aesthetic-ontological, rejecting the traditionally dominant ethical or medical interpretation of catharsis from Aristotle onwards. In this sense, Nietzsche’s consideration of art, primarily tragedy and the accompanying phenomena of art such as catharsis, takes place within the framework of aesthetic metaphysics and with the aim of justifying and confirming the meaning of his own philos- ophy. Such heteronomous aesthetics is carried by the idea of aesthetic justification of the world and existence, as well as the transformation of man in a tragic experience. Nietzsche demonstrates this tragic experience on the example of Dionysian and Apollonian catharsis, where he translates catharsis as the term „discharge”, starting from the views of Jacob Bernays. The basic thesis of Nietzsche’s insight is that catharsis should provide metaphysical comfort and bring salvation.
